It was really strange watching Andrew Cuomo, the governor of New York, throw a high-pitched temper tantrum about how guns are “bad” and only for hunting during his January 9, 2013 State of the State address. It was simply embarrassing. His call for “America’s toughest gun controls” was amazing in its elementary and willful ignorance of a basic cornerstone of the constitution and coming from a public official who is charged with protecting the basic constitutional rights of the people was shocking, pathetic, and shameful. No wonder our culture is dying, our society splintering, our constitution easily ignored, and the march towards the utopian nanny state continuing unabated.
I hate to keep stating the obvious, but the 2nd Amendment has nothing to do with hunting. It has everything to do with having a citizenry that is properly armed and prepared to ‘deal with’ internal insurrection, civil disorder, foreign invasion, personal defense, or government tyranny. Why is that so hard to understand? I agree with the governor that we need to “stop the madness”. His “madness” maybe, and those like him who are intent on castrating the 2nd Amendment no matter what.
It’s been a semi-conspiracy theory for many years that liberals want to “take your guns”. It’s a recurring theme that has been trotted out nearly every election cycle and ‘threat’ that has helped raise many millions of dollars for political candidates and special interest groups. But now, the thin veil has been ripped away and any doubt that the Left has every intention of disarming the American people and gutting the 2nd Amendment has been laid to rest. The leaders as well as the rank and file of the Democratic party have declared the 2ndAmendment to be obsolete, and the American people to be stripped of all modern firearms. The end effect of that policy is the gutting of the 2nd Amendment and the rejection of the Founders intent when it comes to firearms and the right of the people to be an armed deterrent to tyranny.
